Survey Invitation: Economic Value of Tourism in Cape Town

In 2013 the City of Cape Town published the results of the Economic Value of Tourism in Cape Town study showing that the industry contributed R14.6 billion rand to the local economy in direct spend and employed just shy of 50,000 people in 2012. This research demonstrates the importance of the tourism sector to decision and policy makers. The value of tourism can be used to motivate for bigger tourism marketing budgets as well as motivating for the prioritisation of tourism for infrastructure development resulting in more tourists for tourism enterprises.

This year, two respondents will stand the chance to receive complimentary membership for one year to Cape Town Tourism by completing the survey. Existing members will receive their existing membership free for the year and survey participants who are not members of Cape Town Tourism will receive their first year of membership for free. Please note that only fully completed surveys will qualify for the incentive.
All information will be used in aggregate, treated as strictly confidential and no questionnaires will be quoted individually. The survey is being conducted by independent research specialist Grant Thornton on behalf of the City of Cape Town.

What you need to know:
How long will the survey take?
The survey consists of 4 main questions and should not take longer than five to ten minutes.

What kind of information will be required from me?
The survey requests a classification of your tourism enterprise, an indication of your turnover and an indication of your employee details.  The study utilises turnover and employment data from tourism enterprises in the Metropole to calculate what the value of tourism is.

How will this information be used?
The survey does not require the name of your enterprise but rather the type and size of the enterprise and a fair reflection of the turnover and employment details.  This information will ensure that a constructive and usable estimate of the value of tourism can be calculated.  You have the option of entering your e-mail address to enter the draw for two complimentary Cape Town Tourism memberships for one year.

By when should I complete the questionnaire?
The survey opens at 08:00 on Thursday, 29 May and the questionnaire closes at 17h00 on 12 June 2014.
