Marketing update

During December 2010, Cape Town Tourism focused on showcasing Cape Town summer at its very best. We gave our website design a summery makeover to coincide with the Love Summer! Love Cape Town! campaign by adding a background image and new header images – highlighting summer landscapes and activities – to each section of the site.

In addition, we launched the Capture Summer Photography Competition, inviting shutterbugs to submit photos of friends and family enjoying Cape Town’s summer, at the beach, at the top of Table Mountain and everywhere in between. We’ve received loads of fantastic entries so far, and can’t wait to see what else will be submitted. Entries close at midnight on February 15.

The campaign also saw us working to provide detailed information about summer events and activities in Cape Town. We uploaded almost 100 events to our online calendar on during the holiday season.

We published regular blogs on events like the Mother City Queer Project (MCQP), restaurant and club launches and various festive activities taking place across the city. Thanks to all who have submitted information – please continue to do so by emailing event details to .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address).

The summer campaign also involved branding of our Visitor Information Centres (VICs) and all staff being dressed in Love Summer! Love Cape Town! T-shirts.

Cape Town Tourism also continued its excellent relationship with 567 CapeTalk over the summer with a weekly radio programme – Time Out Tourist – which airs every Tuesday at 14h00. Over the holiday season, the programme highlighted fun summer activities for the whole family.

The year ahead will see the continuation of our proactive events strategy – we are working with the likes of Design Indaba, the Cape Town International Jazz Festival, the Old Mutual Two Oceans Marathon and the Cape Argus Pick n Pay Cycle Tour, and we’ve created specific online promotional pages for the latter two events.

Our public relations and guest relations department had a busy month, hosting journalists from Travel + Leisure magazine in the USA and a media group from the Hong Kong Marie Claire.

Reality stars Kim and Khloe Kardashian also appeared on Cape Town’s December guest list, and their Twitter fans followed their every move in the Mother City.

Famous South African radio personality and Talk Radio 702 DJ Kieno Kammies also paid a visit and left our shores as an even more enthusiastic ambassador of Cape Town, sure to bring more of his friends from Gauteng down to the city next year.

A sincere thank you to the large number of members who responded to the first two summer season surveys – we are preparing for the third survey, to be distributed in February 2011, and will continue keeping you informed of valuable findings.
