Mobile Visitor Information Vehicle #Thando
Following the rising trend of visitors wanting to access information about Cape Town wherever they are, Cape Town Tourism is proudly launching the very first Mobile Visitor Information Vehicle in Africa.
The innovative new Info Centre on wheels, affectionately named Thando, (which in the local African language isiXhosa, is the word for love) will be launched and officially revealed at WTM Africa on Friday, 2 May. Thando will be available to view on stand A50, in the Africa Main Hall.
The vehicle will also be on display at the CTT Members Industry event on 29th of May, so save the date.
The adapted, Cape Town Tourism-branded Mercedes Panel Van will be stationed at events, high traffic areas and anywhere else it is needed in a bid to meet travellers – and locals – who may be in need of information and assistance, or wanting to make bookings or buy tickets online.
This Visitor Centre on wheels will be manned by informed Cape Town Tourism hosts and has a built-in office to assist visitors in making bookings for any Cape Town Tourism member products and SANParks establishments. Visitors can also buy tickets for events and shows via Computicket and Webtickets. The attractive chill-out area, featuring locally designed chairs and tables, will offer free Wi-Fi to all visitors engaging with the vehicle. An LCD screen will showcase elements of Cape Town and feature detailed maps.
The Official Cape Town Visitor’s Guide will also be available along with many other useful brochures, cleverly displayed on the inside of the open back doors of the van.
The choice of a Mercedes Panel Van was deliberate as its Blue Efficiency package optimises fuel consumption and reduced emissions, alongside eco gear manual transmission and diesel filter. The entire operations element of the unit will be solar powered.
Thando’s first journey will begin on 9 June with a Western Cape road trip, which fans can follow on Cape Town Tourism’s Facebook page I ♥ Cape Town. Daily prizes will be given to people who can correctly guess where the vehicle is each day, with one person winning an actual road trip in Cape Town when Thando’s journey ends on 20 June 2014.
Follow @lovecapetown #thando from 2 May 2014.
