Cape Town Tourism visitor services update
Visitor information centre preparations for the 2010 FIFA World Cup™ are going as well as can be expected and those involved are making every effort to be ready in time for the big event.
The support of my management team, as well as the immense sacrifices being made by all tourism services staff to deliver an exceptional World Cup, allows me to sleep easier at night. I won’t be getting any sleep during the World Cup however, as I don’t want to miss a moment of this once-in-a-lifetime showcase.
During April, all tourism staff members are undertaking various forms of training, me included. We will be focusing on getting the basics right and doing them well. We are looking at scenario planning ahead of the World Cup.
We are also preparing an internal tourism services communications co-ordination team. Our valued staff will be taking some well-earned leave and be given time to re-charge their batteries in time for kick-off.
We are looking introducing a FOREX service for visitors , as ultimately it is an important service, which we believe will add value throughout our visitor information network. At this stage, we are following a pragmatic and risk-controlled review of this service.
We are in discussion with leaders and innovative newcomers to FOREX servicing.
