Update on tourism marketing structures and strategy
Published: August 19 2010 By: Mariëtte Du Toit-Helmbold
Dear Cape Town Tourism Members,
Thank you for your valued participation at last week’s industry networking session (held on August, 18, 2010 at the Bay Hotel) to discuss proposed tourism marketing structures for Cape Town and the Western Cape. Your support, comments and observations have been noted and will be forwarded to the MEC and the City of Cape Town for consideration.
A comprehensive document outlining both the Provincial and Cape Town Tourism proposals can be viewed here: Communication to Cape Town tourism businesses: consultation on MEC proposals
Cape Town Tourism welcomes your comments on the future tourism marketing structure for Cape Town. Please email .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address) or email the MEC directly and have your say on what would be the best solution. The final deadline for comment to the office of the MEC is September, 30, 2010.
In a new development, the MEC has given his assurance that no decision will be taken on the issue of tourism structures before a tourism strategy for the Province has been agreed, in consultation with key city and regional stakeholders. Cape Town Tourism fully supports this move and will be taking part in the strategic planning process. Look out for our industry updates on this subject.
Please also save the date for our next quarterly JAMMS session on 15 September 2010, to be held at the Crystal Towers Hotel as part of our World Tourism Month programme. Cape Town Tourism, together with FEDHASA Cape, SATSA Western Cape and SAACI, will host a facilitated industry think tank on ‘Leveraging the World Cup to Build a Sustainable Year-Round Tourism Destination’. We encourage your active participation in helping us to draft an action plan for the city.
Yours sincerely
Mariëtte Du Toit-Helmbold
CEO of Cape Town Tourism
