Cape Town Tourism is wrapping up a very successful and insightful few days at the World Travel Market in London, one of the leading global events for the travel industry. Almost 48 000 senior travel industry professionals, government ministers and international media are said to have descended on the Exhibition Centre London on November 7 and 10 to network, negotiate and discover the latest industry opinion and trends at WTM.

The IDA Congress (October 24 to 27) is abuzz with the theme, Design at the Edges, deliberating the linkages between different design disciplines – specifically communication and urban and industrial design – and asking questions about connections between designers and non-designers.
Design is recognised as the global economic and social force to watch – the creative industry of the 21st century. In cities across the world, creative industries and knowledge economies are proven to expand employment and nation development, stimulating urban regeneration and quality of life – making cities better places to visit, work, study, live and invest in. Designing Cape Town to be a more liveable city is central to Cape Town’s World Design Capital bid theme of Live Design, Transform Life.

ITB Berlin is the world’s leading travel trade show, with some 100 000 trade visitors and more than 60 000 members of the public set to visit between March 9 and 13, 2011. This year there is also a record number of participating exhibitors – 188 countries and a total of 11 163 exhibiting companies and organisations. The media, trade and travelling public are spoiled for choice. Running parallel to the trade fair is the ITB Berlin Convention, the largest travel industry event of its kind in the world, from March 9 to 11, 2011.

The World Travel Market (WTM) – the world’s biggest travel show – opened in London today. Now in its 30th year, the WTM is, according to its website, “a unique opportunity for the whole global travel trade to meet, network, negotiate and conduct business under one roof”.
Alan Winde, minister of finance, economic development and tourism in the Western Cape, visited the Cape Town stand at the WTM.
“It’s great to be at the World Travel Market in London. This platform is where we are going to be setting up Cape Town and the Western Cape as the tourism destination for the world in the next 10 years,” he said.

After successful negotiations between Cape Town Tourism, Fedhasa and Cape Town Routes Unlimited, South African Tourism (SAT) has agreed to accommodate the Cape Town and Western Cape exhibit in the Durban Exhibition Centre. We will be situated directly opposite the SAT stand. The Southern African Development Community countries will be in the tented pavilion.
Cape Town Tourism wishes to thank its members as well as Fedhasa for the support and valuable input received on the Indaba Questionnaire sent out earlier this year.
