About Cape Town Tourism

Since its inception in 2004, after the merger of the previous local tourism organisations in Cape Town, the unified Cape Town Tourism has geared itself for the future. The organisation aims not only to support Cape Town, its tourism industry, leaders and its people to successfully host the 2010 FIFA World Cup™, but also to establish a tourism legacy that will support Cape Town way beyond 2010.
Constituted as a voluntary industry association with more than 2 500 members, Cape Town Tourism is one of the largest and most representative tourism industry associations in the world. Our structure means that we represent and work with the private tourism sector while remaining in a dynamic partnership with local and provincial government.
Our board is elected by members from among the membership base to ensure that we remain relevant and accountable to the tourism industry.
Cape Town Tourism deals with approximately 3-million enquiries a year through its network of well-positioned Visitor Information Centres, which are visited by more than 150 000 visitors a month.
On July 1, 2008, Cape Town Tourism’s mandate was extended to include destination marketing services for Cape Town. In essence, Cape Town Tourism is also responsible for destination marketing as well as visitor and industry services.
Our vision is that by 2020, Cape Town will be positioned as Africa’s top city and one of the top 10 world cities to visit, live, work and invest in. Furthermore, the tourism industry will be recognised as a real driver of economic and social transformation in Cape Town and will have played a key role in promoting Cape Town as the creative and lifestyle centre of Africa.
The simple, bold target is to double the economic impact of tourism on the city by 2020.
