Hop-on, hop-off with City Sightseeing

The red open-top City Sightseeing busses are a familiar sight in cities all over the world, offering their popular hop-on, hop-off tours in nearly 100 locations spanning five continents. These popular red double-decker busses can also be seen driving around the streets of Cape Town, giving visitors a voice-guided overview of the city and all its wonderful sights. The voice guides are available in 15 languages with a special channel for kids.

Hop-on, hop-off

One of the main attractions of the Cape Town Sightseeing tours is the hop-on, hop-off nature of the tours, which means you can hop off at any stop along the route to visit an attraction or simply explore in your own time. When you’re ready to continue the tour, just wait for the next bus to pick you up and continue where you left off. Just be sure you get on the right bus, as they say at every stop: “If it’s not a red double-decker bus, it’s not us.”

The Routes

City Sightseeing offers a number of interesting routes that take you from Table Mountain all the way to Cape Point, Langa and Gugulethu, and even the opportunity to see Cape Town from the air.

Main routes

Red City Tour

The City Tour is the most popular tour and a great way to kick off your sightseeing in Cape Town. It takes you all the way up to the Table Mountain Cableway, then makes stops along the Atlantic Seaboard from Camps Bay to Mouille Point and the V&A Waterfront. There are 11 stops and the tour takes about 90 minutes.

Yellow Downtown Tour

This short tour explores downtown Cape Town, as well as the historic District Six and includes stops at some of the city’s most visited cultural and historic landmarks. There are seven stops and the tour takes around 30 minutes.

Blue Mini Peninsula Tour

The Mini Peninsula Tour takes you a bit out of the city towards Cape Town’s Southern Suburbs, past the Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens, then winding its way to the vineyards of Constantia and sleepy Hout Bay, before making its way back to the V&A Waterfront via the Atlantic Seaboard. It is arguably the most scenic tour of the bunch, and if you’re lucky you might even spot a rare kwagga on the slopes of Table Mountain, or a whale playing just off-shore. There are 14 stops and the tour is about 2 hours and 15 minutes long.

Walking Tours

The Imizamu Yethu Township Walk lets you experience township life and interact with locals on a fun walk through the township. There are also four walking tours in Cape Town’s CBD which explores Cape Town’s history, vibrant Bo-Kaap, District Six, as well as the V&A Waterfront.
