Jou Ma Se Comedy Club is proud to announce its name change to Cape Town Comedy Club.

“This is quintessentially a coming of age story” says founder and co-owner, comedian Kurt Schoonraad. The
brand was first created in 2005 and part of the Cape Town Festival, as a tongue in cheek “Pop up Comedy
Club”. In 2007, the club then moved to the Albert Hall in Woodstock, where Kurt’s idea to provide a regular,
reputable stand-up club was welcomed with open arms by Cape Town’s laugh-craving populace. Word soon
spread, and Jou Ma Se Comedy Club became known as the mother of all Cape Town comedy clubs and home
to some of the country’s greatest talent. The club then moved to The River Club in Observatory in 2010 until
October 2013. In November 2013 the brand finally found a permanent home at the beautiful historic
Pumphouse in the heart of the V&A Waterfront.

The club has hosted some of the world’s most famous comedians including; Michael Mittermeier
(Germany), Christopher Titus (US), Babben Larsson (Sweden), Dana Alexander (UK) and the best of
the best South African stars and also hosted numerous high profile corporate events. On the 30th of March
Comedy Central will air the first special “Cape Town Comedy Club presents ….”, a first of its kind for Cape
Town, shot live at the Cape Town Comedy Club.

After a highly successful first year at the clubs new home at The Pumphouse, the management team has
decided to rename the club to “Cape Town Comedy Club”. Kurt explains “On reflection the name change
seems like a natural thing to do, it feels like the brand is all grown up now and the new name reflects that. The
name change which comes into effect on 25th February 2015 also makes it available to a much wider
audience.”

Kurt and his team look forward to many more years of making you all laugh at the new...............Cape Town
Comedy Club.

Every week at 11am there will be an activity for parents or kids and a lunchtime menu to ensure a peaceful, unrushed lunch. Unlike most other markets that close soon after lunch, the Tokai Forest Market is open from 09h00 until 14h00, allowing a leisurely afternoon with no need to hurry.

A message from one of the Tokai forest Market organisers: “This market is important for the home based traders and the organizations that we support, how we depend on the community and also try service the area in which we situated. There will be no alcohol sold at the market but you are more than welcome to bring a picnic with champagne or a bottle of wine to enjoy under the trees (As long as things stay controlled).”

For further details about the Tokai Forest Market keep checking their Facebook page and website for up to date information and happenings. Find them on their website at www.TokaiForestMarket.co.za or on Facebook at www.facebook.com/tokaiforestmarket/

The
name change which comes into effect on 25th February 2015 also makes it available to a much wider
    audience.”

    {image_1}

The 2015 Discovery World Triathlon Series Cape Town will take place at the V&A Waterfront on 25 and 26 April and registration for para-triathletes is now open. This will be the fourth event in the ten city tour, which finishes in Chicago later this year. It is only the second time that a leg of the ITU World Triathlon Series will be hosted on the African continent, with the finish at the brand new Green Point Athletics Stadium.

The first para-triathlete to register is well-known South African Oswald Kydd, who hopes to participate in the Paralympics in Brazil, 2016. Raised by hard-working parents, Kydd was brought up to never give up. A natural runner, he began competing as a young child.

Says Kydd: “I was captain of my school’s cross-country team and received full colours for both athletics and cross-country. After school, I began cycling and found that not only did I love it, but had a natural talent for it. I would commute to work and back every day, clocking up to 70kms per day and would join the club ride on weekends. I once rode to Magaliesburg and back on a whim. This was just riding for fun! Then I entered the Tour of Zimbabwe and got my first taste of competition. From that day, I began my career in ‘licensed’ cycling. I went on to represent KZN and South Africa by winning bronze at the SA Time Trial Champs. I earned my provincial colours that year!”

Kydd describes himself as determined, driven and motivated. He says: “I was an elite cyclist when I had my accident in 1997 ( aged 29). A truck rode over my leg and after two weeks in hospital, my right leg had to be amputated above the knee. I was determined to get back into cycling and  started to compete again in 1999. I won five gold medals in the SA Champs and established three South African track records.”

Kydd adds that he needed more challenges, so started participating in triathlons in 2005. “I befriended the chief referee for Ironman and told him I’d like to do the Ironman sometime. He phoned me to say that the organisers were prepared to sponsor my entry to participate at the next event in 2006. I managed to do some swimming leading up to the event over the next 3 months. Luckily for me, I was able to use a racing wheelchair for the run in accordance with the rules. For the two weeks prior to the event, I didn’t swim or ‘run’ at all. At the start line it was my first time using a wetsuit!”

He completed his first ironman in 2006 and have done three more since then.  He now has two World Triathlon Championships medals, including gold, which he won in Beijing. “I also have 3 African Triathlon Championships medals. I have now set my eyes on retaining my World Triathlon Championships title and participating in the Paralympics in 2016.”

Kydd, aka Kamikaze, lives for winning. “I’ve fallen 120 times, which means I got up 120 times. Many people ask me what keeps me motivated, what keeps me pushing myself to new heights. My answer is simple - because I can! Guts and determination are two qualities I prize most. And coming second is not acceptable!"

Kydd works an 8 hour day, standing on his leg all day. “Despite an aching back, I use my commute to work and back as part of my training, and I have to supplement it with early morning swimming training, running or long rides before work. Weekends are spent doing long rides or racing. I don’t have the benefit of dedicated sponsors, so prosthetics, transport, travel, nutrition and equipment have to be provided by myself and a few kind friends.”
Para-triathletes in the PT2 to PT5 categories can enter as individuals and will participate in the Sprint distance (as opposed to the standard), which includes a 500m swim, 20km bike ride and 5km run.

Vintage continues to trend globally with style guru Deon Chang remarking on the growing popularity of emerging one-off vintage items world-wide and commenting that this signals a return to the unique and the artisanal.

Visitors to the 2015 Vintage Ideas Market at the Simondium’s Country Lodge from 24 -27 April will once again be able to immerse themselves in all things vintage and brides-to-be should not miss this year’s exciting edition.

Featuring a country wedding exhibition with local floral artist Mia Bella, props by Simondium’s Country Lodge, wedding suppliers, bridal décor as well as vintage dresses and accessories, this exclusive showcase will reveal the unmistakable charm of country weddings.

On Saturday, 25 April, Ideas magazine will present a once-off wedding workshop with experts providing hints and tips to add a spectacular vintage touch to any wedding, including how to create your own wedding stationery and bouquet.

    • Bookings can be done directly via the magazine at +27 (0)21 408 3040 and workshop tickets include free entry to the market.
    • Workshop starts at 09h30 for 10h00 and space is limited, so book now to avoid disappointment.

Saturday will also see the gypsy swing band Pravda live in action.  This classically trained Cape Town four-piece band has reinvented the ethnic music of Romania, Argentina and France to create a stunningly original sound.  The combination of trumpet, clarinet, guitar and double bass will entertain visitors while interpreting melodies familiar to young and old with a modern twist.

Amongst the ever-popular favourites, this year’s market will also see several exciting new exhibitors, who will provide vintage inspiration for your home décor, garden and wardrobe.  The deli will once again offer amazing home-made treats.

Add an antique touch to any room with sculptures and figurines from Rustic Romance.  Artist Piet Cronje has created his own moulds to craft delicate faux marble works of art ranging from angels to birds and small animals.

The Décor Associates will also launch their brand-new range of high end bed linen and stunning wrought-iron beds reminiscent of the romance of yesteryear.  The exquisite cotton and percale linen is embellished with top stich, embroidery and hand-made lace that will transform any bedroom into a haven.

Roux du Preez Designs will return with their beautifully crafted jewellery, while Hill House Interiors offers a range of soft furnishings, ceramics , cement and stone home and garden accessories, French home diffusers and fragrances as well as home-grown cut garden  roses, bunches of fynbos, proteas and mixed country flowers.  See a stained glass artist at work as Francois van der Merwe from Live Light Stained Glass demonstrates this ancient craft.

On Sunday, visitors will also be able to watch the Pniel Petanque Players in action alongside the Peacock Palace.  This traditional version of the game boules originated in France in the 19th century and is enjoying renewed interest.  Market goers can become part of the action and join in the game.

    • The Simondium’s Country Lodge is located on the R45 between Paarl and Franschhoek.
    • The Vintage Ideas market is open daily from 9h30 - 16h00 from Friday, 24 April, till Sunday, 26 April, and from 9h30 - 15h00 on Monday, 27 April.
    • Entry tickets cost R30 per adult, while kids under 13 enter free of charge.  Plenty of secured parking is available at the venue.
