Friday Nite LIVE! 6 December – Natalie Chapman
The weekend kicks off with a performance by country blues singer and guitarist Natalie Chapman for Friday Nite LIVE! Natalie Chapman’s music is reminiscent of Melissa Etheridge, combined with Sheryl Crow and Adele’s musical attributes, as well Nina Simone and Joni Mitchell. She has found success as an actress, producer, voice-over artist and radio DJ and has racked up a performance CV longer than most artists could hope for. Her album “Truth Sessions” features some of South Africa’s finest, including Karen Zoid, Dan Patlansky and Albert.
Saturday 7 December – Nakhane Toure
Singer/songwriter Nakhane Toure takes to the Bay Harbour Sound Stage on Saturday. Hailing from Johannesburg, Nakhane has had a passion for 60s and 70s soul music but was also fascinated by 70’s avant-garde fusion jazz. Nakhane draws his influence from artists such as Radiohead, Joni Mitchell, Nina Simone, Miles Davis and Velvet Underground to name a few. He also holds a deep appreciation for Simphiwe Dana, Ali Farka Toure, Miriam Makeba, Baaba Maal, Fela Kuti and Thandiswa Mazwai. While Nakhane learnt to play the steel drums and trombone in school, the guitar was the instrument he truly fell in love with. On Saturday, listeners can enjoy Nakhane’s soul music and virtuosity on the guitar.
Sunday 8 December – Lee Gold
Lee Gold performs on the Bay Harbour Sound Stage on Sunday for the perfect weekend wind down. Lee primarily plays Jazz music, but also incorporates pop, latin and funk into her music. She began playing piano at the age of eight, and has throughout the years expanded her musical ability. She is now a professional and talented musician. Lee performs with a trio or quartet of musicians. She is a talented pianist, vocalist and keyboardist. Lee’s soulful performance is the perfect way to gently end off a great weekend.
