Interactive and accessible art is the aim of the new year-long Stellenbosch public art exhibition. Kom Sit, a project of the Stellenbosch Outdoor Sculpture Trust (SOST), consists of 24 strategically placed benches in the city centre transformed by established and emerging artists including a graffiti-clad bench by street/graffiti artist Mak1One, “You can sit under my umbrella” (a lone ballerina) by Marieke Prinsloo-Rowe and “Kom Praat -The Travelling Baboon” (a baboon sitting on a bench carrying a suitcase) by Wilma Cruise. Aimed at connecting people who wouldn’t normally connect, the project also features artists like David “Uhuru” Hlongwana and Strijdom van der Merwe.
