21st - 23rd September 2012

The Dr Evil Classic is a three day stage race starting on Friday 21st September 2012 in Wittedrift just outside of Plettenberg Bay and exploring the surrounding areas. The Classic finishes with the well established Pennypinchers Die Burger Karoo to Coast Mountain Bike Challenge as day three of the event on Sunday 23rd September 2012.

The first Dr Evil Classic – Three Day Stage Race is limited to 600 riders = both SOLO and TEAM entries are accepted.

The Route:

DAY ONE - starts in Wittedrift just outside of Plettenberg Bay on Friday 21st September and is a circular seventy kilometer route that includes jeep track, plantation and single track in very beautiful surroundings.

DAY TWO – starts in Wittedrift and takes riders along a spectacular route to the intersection where the secondary road to Plettenberg Bay joins up with the Prince Alfred’s Pass. You will ride a limited section of the Karoo to Coast route in reverse on Day Two and the approximate total of this day of racing is ninety kilometers.

DAY THREE - includes the Pennypinchers Die Burger Karoo to Coast Mountain Bike Challenge on the 23rd September as the final day of racing. This route is one hundred kilometers of awesome riding from Uniondale to Knysna via the Prince Alfred’s Pass.

Many athletes who have completed the popular Pennypinchers Die Burger Karoo to Coast Mountain Bike Challenge have asked that the event be turned in to a stage race. The Dr Evil event owners, Zandile Meneses and Leon Evans have teamed up to grant cyclists their wish.

Dr Evil has decided to be reasonably kind to riders in the inaugural year of the Classic. He has been heard to say that the stage race is aimed at people who are fit enough to do the Karoo to Coast BUT, he promises that the two days before the final day will NOT be more difficult than the final day of racing! “If you set the goal and put sensible training time in – you will love the three days of racing. You can also choose to go hard and hurt or to take it easy and soak up the magnificent scenery that this adventure has to offer!”

For more information visit the Dr Evil Classic website: or feel free to call Zandile Meneses on 082 851 3622 if you have any enquiries.

The Quadrant – Claremont’s ‘work, live and play’ precinct bordering Wilderness and Main Roads (close to Kingsbury Hospital) and adjoining the Claremont Library – recently unveiled its new Saturday market.

The Quadrant, which is fast becoming one of the most sought after residential, health-zone and office node has opened its adjoining Library Square to speciality traders.

And the organisers are welcoming all to share in the markets bounty.

Stalls are set up on the leafy Library Square which forms part of the precinct, and patrons have the choice of a wide variety of items for sale.  These include fresh farm produce, freshly baked breads, artisan goods, boutique wines, homemade preserves, olives, gourmet food, seasonal items, crafts, artwork from local artists and plants & herbs.

Members of the public are also invited to simply soak up the atmosphere of the vibrant market or to enjoy some refreshments at A Tavola restaurant and Café Nood that also form part of the precinct.
