SHARK CAGE DIVING IN GANSBAAI:
The ultimate in wildlife adventure tours has to be the face to face introduction to the Great White Shark. Although great whites, or Carcharodon charcharias, can be found on every coast in the world (except the Antarctic), few places can offer the conditions found off the coast of Gansbaai that make shark viewing on a daily basis, possible. The one day tour is your action packed, adrenaline fueled encounter that you simple cannot miss!
TOUR SUMMARY:
Our full day tour provides the following:
• A light meal on arrival
• A information and safety briefing.
• 3-5 hours at sea
• Cinematographer to capture all the action
• Experienced dive master and skipper
• 7mm wet suit with mask and snorkel, and yes, we will have one to fit you.
• Our 6 man cage allows you to have several dives
• Our boat only takes 20 clients.
• On return to shore a light lunch is served
THE DIVE:
Shark and Safari provides shark cage diving tours from Gansbaai, 160km from Cape Town. Dyer Island is just off the coast and is home to one of the largest seal colonies in Southern Africa. The approximately 60 000 seals provide the main diet of the Great White Shark. The channel that intersects this island is called Shark Alley.
Our guests arrive at least one-hour before launch departure. You will be required to complete the necessary indemnity forms followed by breakfast. This is followed by a safety briefing with our tour guide after which our boat, Nemo departs from the harbour to look for the sharks on a 20 minute boat trip to Shark Alley(in Winter) or a 10-15 minute trip to the alternative viewing spot (in Summer) where most of the sharks usually hang out.
Nemo, is manned by the Skipper and Dive Master, a tour guide, a shark handler and a videographer.
Nemo is equipped with sufficient diving equipment to accommodate all our guests on their cage dive and the dive master ensures that everyone is safe and comfortable with the experience. Nemo is also equipped with all the necessary safety gear as well as a life-boat large enough to accommodate all the guests should it become necessary
Snacks including chips, fruit, bread-rolls and water are available for the duration of the trip.
Divers can spend at least 20 minutes in the cage, unless shark sightings are really meagre, when time in the cage will be limited to give everyone an opportunity to see the sharks from the cage.
Nemo can only accommodate 20 people per trip, an advantage in the reduction of waiting time before and after dives.
When everyone is satisfied with their viewing and dives, Nemo returns to the harbour and Crew House for lunch and a viewing of the video taken during the trip. This is also the time to purchase your copy before your departure.
