Sport
Cape Town is a sports lover's paradise. The area's exquisite natural terrain and a strong industry makes it the go-to place for top annual events. Cycling, mountainbiking, horse-racing and running are on the sporting calendar's list of highlights.
Cape Argus Cycle Tour
The Cape Argus Cycle Tour is traditionally staged on the second Sunday in March every year, attracting about 35 000 cyclists from around the world. The event also includes a tandem category, which can be entered by anyone older than 11, provided that one rider is an adult.
The Cape Epic
In climbing jargon, an “epic” is defined as “an ordinary climb rendered difficult by a dangerous combination of weather, injuries, darkness, or other adverse factors” (thanks, Wikipedia). Put the word “Cape” in front of that, add 1 200 mountain bikes racing over rough terrain for many days and nights … starting to see where this is going?
J&B Met
The last Saturday of January is blocked out in the diaries of horse-racing fans all over South Africa, as they make their way to Cape Town’s Kenilworth Racecourse for the J&B Met – the Cape’s most glam racing event and über-chic photo opportunity for fashionistas.
Two Oceans Marathon
The Two Oceans Marathon has come a great distance since its humble beginnings more than 40 years ago, when 26 eager runners took to the starting line for the inaugural 58,7km (36,5mi) race. Due to the beautiful, if arduous, course, it's been dubbed "The world's most beautiful ultra-marathon."
