Getting married is a big step for anyone: it is a commitment not to be taken lightly, but it is also an opportunity to have a grand celebration. And Cape Town, one of the world's most gay-friendly cities, is an amazing place to make your wedding dreams come true.

In South Africa, where same-sex marriage is legal, there is an entire industry devoted to making your nuptials a day to remember.

From arranging the flowers to the all-important honeymoon, you can do it yourself – or hire a wedding planner, who will come up with the perfect package for you.

The venue choices are varied, from weddings on the beach, at a wine estate, on a yacht or at a hotel. Whichever option you chose, it is sure to be perfect.

The Vineyard, The Bay and the Twelve Apostle Hotels have a number of wedding packages on offer, some of which include the happy couple spending their wedding night at the hotel.

Cape Town also boasts gay-friendly churches, where you can perform your wedding ceremony.

The Mother City offers a host of pink honeymoon options, you could chose to stay at the Grand Daddy Hotel in the city centre and do day trips to places like Table Mountain, which last year was inaugurated as one of the New7Wonders of Nature.

A trip to the Constantia wine route, along the picturesque M3, is a wonderful way to enjoy Cape Town. Groot Constantia, one of Cape Town's oldest estates, offers wine-tasting and some of the best Cape cuisine.

Weddings can be exhausting, and the honeymoon couple may find it best to laze on the beach. There are many options, but Clifton's third beach is a romantic spot at sunset.
