The Loerie Awards – 22 to 23 September 2012

The 34th Annual Loerie Awards ceremonies took place on Saturday 22nd and Sunday 23rd September at the Cape Town International Convention Centre.

The first night was hosted by popular TV presenters Johan Stemmet and Zizo Beda and second night was hosted by 90s rapper, MC Hammer. It was a grand opening as MC Hammer performed his 1990 hit single Can't Touch This and showed that he still has the moves that made him so famous.

Three Grand Prix Loeries were awarded. Ogilvy Cape Town were rewarded for their integrated campaign "Be the Coach" for Carling, in which South Africans were able to select their football team of choice for a big match, using their mobile phones. Black River FC received generous applause as they collected their award for the Nando's "Last Dictator Standing" television commerical, which also went viral on the internet. Net#work BBDO also picked up a Grand Prix award for their radio commercials on behalf of Mercedes-Benz.

John Hunt of TBWA\Hunt\Lascaris received the Lifetime Achievement Award for the many amazing commercials he has been involved in over the years. He received a standing ovation as he collected his prize and said to the audience: "Life is too short to be mediocre."
