Pianist Francois du Toit is back with the Cape Town Philharmonic Orchestra to open the Spring Symphony season with the Chopin Piano Concerto No 2.
Daniel Boico, associate conductor of the KZN Philharmonic Orchestra, will be on the podium and will conduct Gli Uccelli (The Birds), Video Games by Thomas Rajna, which marks the 90th birthday of this Hungarian-born South African composer, and the Sinfonietta by Poulenc.
For Du Toit, who is one of South Africa’s most popular pianists across all genres from orchestral concertos to chamber music and recitals, is particularly looking forward to playing the Chopin. He last performed this Chopin Piano Concerto in its entirety with the CPO in 2001 and has been looking forward to performing it again ever since. A bonus on the programme is that composer and pianist Thomas Rajna will play the celesta in his own work, Video Games.
