The Cape Town International Kite Festival

“Let Hope Fly” is the theme for Africa’s biggest kite festival, the Cape Town International Kite Festival and it promises to be a day of fun in the sun for the whole family. This year’s event – the 25th edition – is on 26 and 27 October 2019.

The annual kite festival is a highlight Mental Health Awareness Month, and the 2019 focus is suicide awareness and prevention.

What to expect

Kiters from Bulgaria, Germany, Italy, Turkey, the UK and South Africa will be coming to Cape Town to fly their incredible kite creations.

There will be amazing kiting displays, stunt kites, and even kite fighting in the main arena. Creativity among participants is heartily encouraged. You can bring your own kite to fly in the public flying arena, buy a kite at the festival, or even make one at one of the free kite-making workshops.

Enjoy watching the world’s most incredible kites plus free kite-making workshops, excellent local live entertainment, crafts, stalls and rides. Pack a picnic or take your pick of festival fare from the many food trucks.

This stunning event offers affordable, fresh-air fun that is good for you and your family. All profits go towards helping Cape Mental Health provide vital services to adults and children in resource-poor communities.
