Considering the list of the world’s most popular destinations, it is hard to beat Cape Town’s value for money, especially because of the South African rand’s exchange rate with major currencies.
Cape Town offers excellent, modern infrastructure and facilities at a price that few cities can beat.
Travel, accommodation, leisure activities, entertainment, and wining and dining are cheaper in Cape Town than they are in many major cities around the world.
Accommodation
Cape Town is home to hundreds of hotels, with a selection to suit all needs and budgets.
A room in a four-star hotel in Cape Town will generally cost between R700 and R1100 per person per night, depending on availability.
Attractions
Most of Cape Town’s main attractions are either free of charge or very reasonably priced. They are also easily accessible.
Wining and dining
You could have dinner at most of Cape Town’s top restaurants for between R200 and R300 per person, excluding drinks. A bottle of wine, for example, costs between R80 and R 200 depending on your taste.

VAT reclaim
Foreign visitors can reclaim value added tax (VAT) on purchases of more than R250.
This can be arranged through the VAT refund offices at Cape Town International Airport.
To reclaim VAT, you will need your original tax invoice/s, as well as your passport.
