Climate
Cape Town has a lovely Mediterranean climate, with long, warm, dry summer days, which are ideal for hosting outdoor conferences and events.
The winters, while wet at times, are still warmer than summer in many parts of the Northern Hemisphere.
The average maximum temperature during summer months (November to March) is a comfortable 26°C (79°F), while the average minimum temperature during typical winter months (June to August) is around 7°C (45°F).
Because of its southerly location, Cape Town experiences extended daylight hours in the summer, with the sun out from around 05h00 to around 21h00. In winter the sun rises at 07h00 and sets at 18h00.
A rainfall survey conducted at Cape Town airport over a 38-year period found that the annual average rainfall was 554 mm (22 in), with January being the driest month (11.6 mm or 0.4 in) and June being the wettest (98.3 mm or 4 in).
Best months for outdoor conferences and events
Between November and April is the best time to host an outdoor event or conference, as these are the warm, dry summer months.
Cape Town’s secret season
While visitor numbers drop slightly during winter months (May to September), this is the most economical time of year to host a conference or event in the Mother City, with various special offers available.

What to pack
Because of the excellent weather, the business dress code in Cape Town tends to be more relaxed than in other major cities around the world. In summer, for example, businessmen in Cape Town usually prefer not to wear a suit and tie, and opt instead for the more informal open-collar look.
During these summer months, it is advisable to wear sunscreen when spending time outdoors. Shorts and beachwear are advisable for leisure time.
While winters in Cape Town aren’t as cold as winters in places like Europe, it is still advisable to pack warm clothes and a waterproof jacket if you’re going to be outdoors.
