Zandvlei Canoeists – Flickr pic of the day
Koeshke says, “It was difficult to get out of my warm and cosy bed, but morning was breaking and Zandvlei was beckoning.
“There had been a storm the day before and the long grass along Zandvlei was still wet from the rain and the dew. I was not the only one out and about at this early hour. Ducks and geese were making their way towards the water, seagulls were swooping in the air and cormorants were doing a snake-like dance on the water. A couple of dogs had also managed to persuade their humans to brave the cold morning air and the folk from Marina da Gama were taking their early morning exercise.
“By the time I got home, my fingers were numb, my nose was running from the biting cold, and my shoes and socks were soaked through – but it felt good to be alive in Cape Town.”
Zandvlei, a wetland river system and estuary situated on the False Bay coastline, is a favourite spot for birders, walkers, picnickers, canoeists and windsurfers.
