X-Jam – A Cape Town Tourism Flickr photo essay
My main focus in photography is action sports (which include mountain biking, BMX, skateboarding and rollerblading) and nature in any form. I guess with my animation background I still like to try and add a bit of humour to my work. Other than that, I do like to try my hand at a bit of everything, and living in such a beautiful area, it’s not difficult to find amazing opportunities right on your doorstep.
On November 22 2008 there was a BMX competition and demo at the V&A Waterfront in Cape Town, and I was invited to capture the action.
When I arrived it was drizzling a bit, and not looking too promising. Wet wooden ramps and bike tyres don’t go too well together, but we stayed positive and luckily the sun made an appearance.
The commentator on the mic let the crowd know what was going on, keeping them amped.
Riders pulled off some really technical moves, keeping the crowd entertained with their impressive “big air” stunts.
If you’re keen to see tricks like this for yourself, make sure you get to the upcoming “Pro-X” event at the V&A Waterfront on February 7 and 8 2009. The event will showcase the best of motorcross (MX), skateboarding, BMX, wakeboarding and more.
