World Design Capital 2014: The countdown has begun

In less than 20 hours, Cape Town could be the World Design Capital 2014.

With funding and an internationally renowned title at stake, and stiff competition from Dublin (Ireland) and Bilbao (Spain), design fever is running high.

A high-level delegation, which includes Executive Mayor of Cape Town Patricia de Lille, is currently in Taipei, Taiwan, where the announcement of the title will be made.

In the bid book, themed Live Design. Transform Life. submitted by the Cape Town Partnership on behalf of the City of Cape Town to the International Council for Societies of Industrial Design, we show that our city of inspiration is steadily improving her citizens’ life through design.

Cape Town was selected as one of the finalists for the World Design Capital 2014 from 56 cities in 24 countries. That’s pretty impressive!

Winning this prestigious title will see an increase of visitors to our shores and see us host a year-long programme of creative and inspirational events.

The countdown for the World Design Capital 2014 announcement has begun!
