Design is more than architecture, clothes and jewellery. It is also about bridging the divide between communities, offering sustainable solutions and being innovative.

The Mother City is the World Design Capital 2014, and over the next year designers will have an opportunity to showcase their projects. Cape Town Design, the non-profit company established to implement WDC CT 2014, has called for proposals to show how design can be used to transform lives.

The closing date for submissions is 5 April 2013, and projects must be submitted online

Succesful projects will be promoted by Cape Town Design nationally and internationally, under the WDC CT 2014 banner.

The central theme is "Live Design. Transform Life." There are four themes for designers to choose from: African Innovation, Global Conversations; Bridging the Divide; Today for Tomorrow, and Beautiful Spaces, Beautiful Things.

Successful designs will be given official recognition as WDC 2014 projects and will be included in the programme of events for the year.

There will also be local and international exposure and opportunities to explore sponsorship.
