Windy Camps Bay – Flickr pic of the day

image

This photo of a very windy Camps Bay was taken by our Cape Town. Live it. Love it. group member Michael Gaylord.

Michael says, “The thing I love the most about living in Cape Town is that when you go away on vacation you can always look forward to returning home. The beauty of the scenery is unparalleled in South Africa. This place is truly unique because of the contrasts between the flat ocean and the tall mountains.

“Another reason I love living in Cape Town so much is that it is an outdoors-lover’s dream. You can be in heavy traffic in the city one minute and on top of a mountain in the tranquillity of nature the next. Literally a half-hour’s walk from anywhere on the slopes on the mountains and you can be right in the depths of nature.

“Many other South Africans are of the opinion that Cape Town has the worst weather in the country, but having lived here for over 10 years now I can say that that is simply not true. As Cape Town is next to the ocean, the weather patterns vary dramatically regardless of the season. Winter in Cape Town is truly a special time to experience the city and its surrounding countryside. In one week the weather can go from torrential rain to a warm, summer-like day.

“These features of Cape Town make it a landscape photographer’s dream. There is always a beautiful red sunset over the Atlantic or misty sunrise over the city to photograph and being so close to great shooting locations anywhere in the city makes planning a lot simpler,” he continues.
