Where Would You Rather Be Wednesdays in Cape Town
Fazielah Williams
Fazielah Williams has lived in and loved her Mother City since birth. Having lived all over the Peninsula during her childhood, she now calls the picturesque City Bowl home and likes nothing more than watching the sun set over Table Bay from the window of her apartment.
A lover of the arts and proud Cape Town fanatic, Fazielah began her writing career by spending many hours as a child conjuring fantastical stories that featured independent heroines from faraway lands who saved the Prince instead. This Capetonian princess has enjoyed stints as a magical arts PRO and TV publicist before finding her calling as a travel writer.
When not waxing lyrical about the Fairest Cape’s most loved attractions and activities and embarking on unexpected adventures, Fazielah can usually be found taking in a show at one of the City’s fabulous theatres.

Call me crazy, but if you had to ask me where I’d rather be on a Wednesday in Cape Town, I couldn’t tell you … simply because I’d want to be all over the Mother City at once!
Wednesday, that magical, wonderful, crazy midweek beauty also known as Hump Day for the working folk, is traditionally seen as a mini-weekend. A day when you get to enjoy the Wacky Wednesdays two- for-one burgers at Steers, ladies get in for free at chic nightclubs all over town, and cocktail prices are slashed to a sweet, affordable price at most bars.
It’s with these hedonistic pleasures in mind that I will be asking you, Mother City lovers, each week where you would rather be on Wednesdays in Cape Town. Keep an eye out for my burning questions on the I ♥ Cape Town Facebook page and then leave a comment on the post or send your response to fb@capetown.travel.
To help get you inspired, here are my top 5 places I’d rather be on Wednesdays in Cape Town (yes, I’ve managed to narrow them down):
People-watching in Bree Street
Bree Street has been experiencing a season of rejuvenation lately and with the increase in coffee shops, art galleries, fashion boutiques and the like on its paved pathways, this has become my new favourite spot to idly watch people and the world go by.
Lunch at Kalky’s
The scenic drive, breathtaking view, and the oh-so-tasty fish and chips parcel that awaits at this little piece of fishing village heaven in Kalk Bay makes me want to leave the office right now!
Enjoying a nooner at the V&A Waterfront
Get your mind out of the gutter … I meant an afternoon movie treat at this seaside mecca’s Nu Metro moviehouse!
This cinematic powerhouse has all of the Oscar-nominated movies, including Lincoln, Les Misérables and Django Unchained, on its playbill. And best of all, if you’re a Nu Metro Fanatics member, you get to enjoy half-price with their Woza Wednesdays special.
Suntanning on Camps Bay beach
Getting our fair share of Vitamin D while admiring the hot beauties and amazing scenery on the white, sandy shores of Camps Bay is what we Capetonians are best at … get your swimsuits, sunscreen and umbrellas, and join me for a dip and tan.
Dinner at Rafiki’s:
Give me a burger and chips, and you will have my heart … or better yet, treat me to the Burger Special night at Rafiki’s!
For just R84.50, we can sink our teeth into this vibey Tamboerskloof restaurant’s excellent beef patties. Call +27 (0)21 426 4731 for more information.
