Valentine’s Day with Cape Town’s flower sellers: Pictures and video
Stuart Buchanan
Stuart Buchanan is a journalist, blogger, and online writer for Flow Communications.
He grew up in Durban and has lived in various parts of South Africa and the UK, before finally settling on Cape Town. He often wonders why anyone would want to live anywhere else.
Adderley Street, in Cape Town’s city centre, has been the site of a flower market for more than 100 years.
During that time, the flower sellers have become the saviour of many hopeless romantics, especially those who have left their Valentine's Day shopping until the last minute!
They are known for their good humour and wit, and are a shining example of a successful small business enterprise in the city.
Check out photos and a video from earlier today – their busiest day of the year:

Choosing the right combination of flowers is important!
Roses are always popular...
... but there are many other blooms to choose from
You don't even need to leave your car!
The colours and the smell make a visit to the flower sellers very pleasant
There are other Valentine's goodies on sale here too
