Top reasons why fashion designer Ruald Rheeder loves Cape Town

Trendy Capetonian designer Ruald Rheeder is making waves in the fashion industry

The future of South African menswear lies stylishly with Cape-Town based designers and brands such as Craig Port, Fabiani, Carducci, Csquared and, without a doubt, Ruald Rheeder – who is fast becoming a savvy business and fashion brand in South Africa.

Rheeder recently showcased his latest range at the AFI Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Joburg in March.

The range is a ready-to-wear blend of pieces that are definitely worth a purchase; his design aesthetic is constructed in simple contrasts to allow his target market to create everyday-wear looks using a Ruald Rheeder shirt, pants and style.

The showcase was also accompanied by news of the new face of the brand, Top Billing presenter Jonathan Boynton-Lee, who walked the runway and also features in the latest campaign by the brand.

With all the news around the brand and its positive future, I chatted to Ruald about why he loves Cape Town and what he enjoys about the Mother City:

Who are your top three Cape Town fashion icons (styling, design and media)?

My one and only fashion icon is Tom Ford. Ford embodies what every man should and could look like. He is crazy talented and I love everything that he does. Locally, I don’t have fashion icons as such – but I am inspired by people from all walks of life in general. I look up to each and every creative in our industry for their dedication, passion and keeping the industry alive.

What are your top the nightlife spots in Cape Town?

The Orphanage; the Reserve in Adderley Street; and the new Shimmy Beach Club at the V&A Waterfront.

What are your top three favourite shopping spots in Cape Town?

I would have to say V&A Waterfront , Kloof Street and Long Street.

And lastly, why do you love Cape Town?

I love Cape Town because of its uniqueness in terms of setting, people, lifestyle and creativity. I absolutely love travelling, but nothing beats Cape Town – there is just no place like it!

Ruald Rheeder menswear is available from a YDE store near you. I really think that as a Cape Town brand, his future is bright and fashionably ready for the rest of South Africa.
