Top places to be in Blaauwberg

Whether you’ve read up on, visited or even lived in Cape Town, you’re probably more familiar with the attractions of the Atlantic Seaboard, South Peninsula or the wine lands. For an alternative Mother City experience, cross the bay from Cape Town CBD, find yourself in the Blaauwberg region and explore the West Coast like never before.

Bloubergstrand offers the iconic view of Table Mountain across Table Bay that’s graced plenty of postcards. Besides this spectacular view and white sanded beach is an overabundance of bars, restaurants, accommodation and activities. Here are our top places to be in Blaauwberg:

ACCOMODATION

When it comes to bed & breakfast or hotels, you're spoilt for choice in Blouberg. Check into 26 on Gull, Blouberg Manor, Blue Robin, or the Sir David Boutiques Guesthouse and enjoy not only the breath-taking ocean views and sunsets but the relaxing quiet of luxury accommodation. If you prefer a more casual place to park your slippers, perhaps the Saltycrax Backpackers' pillows have your name on them. These are just a few places, Blouberg offers many more and at every budget.

RESTAURANTS

A "things to do in Cape Town" guide wouldn't be complete without pointing out places to eat, drink and be merry, and our top places to be in Blaauwberg list is no different. Moyo's is a beloved African themed reataurant at Eden on the Bay, serving scrumptuous meals which can be enjoyed to the sound of the Altlantic Ocean's crashing waves. For heartier gastronomic fare you can book a table at the Cattle Baron Steak Ranch or relax and unwind at Mzantsi Lounge, a Blaauwberg gem likened to another iconic Cape Town venue, Mzoli's.

ACTIVITIES

If one were to paint a picture of a typical Blouberg scene, one couldn't do it without adding kites flying overhead, scattering pixels of colour to a flawless azure sky. Kites are a familiar sight, with activites ranging from just flying them on the beach to more adventurous persuits like kite surfing. If action and adventure are your thing, Blouberg offers a plethora of activites for those of you that hanker for more than just sipping cocktails and taking in the view.  Book a session with Kite Kahunas or Best Kite Boarding for on-the-water fun. Take to the skies with Birdmen ParaglidingTandem Paraglide CC T/A Paraglide SA or Skydive Cape Town for an adrenalin-pumping view of the Mother City.

But this is just the "tip of the Blouberg", there's so much more to see, taste, do and places to stay.
