The Tenors to perform on Heritage Day
On September 24, music lovers can enjoy opera and classical music by The Tenors at the V&A Waterfront’s Amphitheatre, in Cape Town.
The Tenors consists of Gugulethu vocalists Mpendulo Yawa, Siyabulela Gqola, Xolani November and Loyiso Dlova, talented locals who enjoy a wide variety of music, including kwaito and hip-hop, but say that not much moves them the way classical and choral music do.
Though the singers have performed all over the country – as well as for international stars such as Mariah Carey, Chris Rock and Oprah – they choose to perform in Gugulethu and Cape Town townships, following their dream of making classical music more accessible to township residents.
The group has won numerous prizes and competitions, such as the Nyanga Junction Golden Voice Competition, first prize at the Langa Gospel competition and more.
