The designer bug has once again bitten, and this year’s much anticipated Design Indaba is finally beginning to unfold. First on the Design Indaba’s trendy agenda (most definitely drafted using only the prettiest of fonts) is the Design Indaba Filmfest, offering silver screen enthusiasts an experience not to be missed.
The film festival component is currently under way, and will run until this coming Sunday, February 27, at the new Freeworld Design Centre in the Cape Waters Building.
Ten films are included in the line-up, including the Oscar-nominated Banksy creation Exit Through the Gift Shop, as well as a documentary on Yves Saint Laurent. Screenings will take place twice daily, at 18h30 and 20h30, and are priced at only R30 a show.
Nadine Botha, Editor of the Design Indaba magazine, commented on the Filmfest, saying, “The event has been well attended so far. People have responded with genuine gratitude that the line-up has included so many special films. They have also really liked the venue, which is brand new.”
If you’re looking to get the most out of this designer experience and make a night of it, why not treat yourself to a movie-meal deal, exclusive to the Freeworld Design Centre’s gourmet restaurant the Hemelhuijs, for only R100. This really is “dinner and a show” at its best, as celebrated food artist Jacques Erasmus serves up a feast for the stomach to match the filmic feast for the eyes.
Be sure to stick around for a live cyber seminar with design champion Bruce Mau on Thursday, February 24, between 19h30 and 22h00. The seminar will be based on the principle that design can change the world – be there for the launch of the creative revolution!
The Freeworld Design Centre is situated on the corner of Waterkant and Buitengracht (on the Fan Walk).
