Cape singer Sasha Lee Davids wins Idols
Sasha Lee Davids, winner of the fourth South African Idols, has put the little town of Atlantis – just outside Cape Town – on the map.
After a gruelling five-month competition, the 18-year-old pastor’s daughter from Atlantis beat thousands of contestants from around the country to claim the title of South Africa’s new Idol.
At the spectacular two-hour finale at the Mosaïek Theatre in Johannesburg last night, the top two finalists each performed three songs – their last chance to impress voters. Sasha Lee’s personal Top 10 number was “Bleeding Love” by Leona Lewis, and the judges’ favourite number was the Black Sweden remix of the Abba hit “Mamma Mia”.
Having won the hearts of the voting public, Sasha Lee announced the song that will become her first single: “True Believer” – which is now available for download from the Nokia Music Store.
