The five finalists in the Amarula Taste the Cape Town Sunset Campaign have been announced. They are:

Chapman’s Peak Hotel, Hout Bay (021) 790 1036 (represented by Denver Mutambo)
Karibu Restaurant, Waterfront (021) 421 7005/6 (represented by Marlon Berry)
Cantina Tequila, Northern Suburbs (021) 919 1556 (represented by Ian Strydom)
Zevenwacht Restaurant, Northern Suburbs (021) 903 5123 (represented by Chris Papayannes)
Tuscany Beach (021) 438 1213 (represented by Roelof Jakobus Croukamp)

The search for the ultimate Amarula Cape Town Cocktail began when Cape Town Tourism and Amarula joined forces to challenge the bars of Cape Town to come up with a cocktail that defined the Cape Town sundowner lifestyle. Bars across the peninsula rose to the challenge and mixed up innovative blends dominated by the key ingredient: Amarula.

Etienne Schlechter, chairperson of the Bartenders’ Association (and a mixologist by trade) was hard pressed to narrow down the final five, but the choice has been made and the competition gets even more nail-biting from here…

The five finalists will now man competing stands at The Taste of Cape Town event in Camps Bay over the weekend of 3-5 April 2009. Popularity indicated through the sales of these cocktails will get them in the running for the cocktail-drinking month of April.

Each of the participating bars will have information about the search in their venues during April. The public will be able to visit each of the five finalist bars to taste their Amarula Cape Town Cocktail entry. They can then vote for their favourite on Cape Town Tourism’s website at www.capetown.travel/competitions where a poll will be hosted. By entering their vote, the public will also stand a chance of winning one of five sunset experiences courtesy of Cape Town Tourism and Amarula.

The poll will be tallied on Wednesday, 30 April 2009, and the winner will be announced on Monday, 4 May 2009. The creators of this winning cocktail will not only hold this prestigious title for the first time, they will also be sent on an all expenses paid trip to attend the Flair Barman Championships in Berlin in August 2009.

Says Cape Town CEO, Mariëtte du-Toit Helmbold, “Cape Town deserves its own cocktail! The Cape Town lifestyle is all about living and loving life and we are definitely seen to be the party capital of the FIFA 2010 World Cup™.”

Amarula Brand Manager Lynette Harris agrees: “As the official cream for the FIFA 2010 World Cup™ and in promoting the best in Africa, we saw this as the perfect opportunity to showcase our talents internationally.”
