Cape Town’s Table Mountain – a magical place for love
The month of October did not only bring gusts of wind to Cape Town and Table Mountain, but also a deliverance of love and wedding proposals.
On October 26, 2012, Elmer Marthinus led his girlfriend, Anneen Marais, through a maze of blindfolded glory only to propose to her at the summit of Table Mountain, and on October 13, 2012, it was the turn of Justine Fargher and Jonny Ewing to experience the joy.
It is a day Justine is not likely to forget – the day she went up Table Mountain with a boyfriend and came down with a fiancé.
While on holiday in Cape Town, Justine and her boyfriend Jonny had decided to go on an early morning hike using the Platteklip Gorge path.
“It was a beautiful day with bright blue skies and not a single cloud. Once we reached the top, there were a group of rocks that formed a small hill and we climbed to the top of the rocks so we could enjoy the beautiful view alone.
“While looking over beautiful Cape Town, Jonny got down on one knee and asked me to marry him. Of course, my answer was yes!"
She said that after spending some time exploring the top of Table Mountain they caught the cable car back down to the bottom.
“The view from the rotating cable car was incredible. I could not have asked for a more meaningful proposal,” said Justine.
Asked if he was nervous about proposing, Jonny said: “I was not nervous at all, I was quite relaxed. We had spoken about it; the proposal wasn’t out of the blue. I was more nervous about losing the ring”.
“We have been dating for 10 months, but we’ve known each other since I was five years old. She was my first girlfriend when I was 12. After school we went our separate ways and then met each other again a year ago and just connected.”
The Johannesburg-based couple will be moving to Cape Town at the end of the year when Justine qualifies as a doctor. The wedding date has been set for March 23, 2013.
Let's hope the month of November will also be filled with declarations of love and marriage.
