Table Mountain is a New7Wonder of Nature

Table Mountain is on of the New7Wonders of Nature!  The announcement was made shortly after 21h00 on Friday, November 11, 2011. During an official announcement event at the V&A Waterfront in Cape Town, Table Mountain Cableway CEO, Sabine Lehmann, read out the New7Wonders of Nature in alphabetical order. There was massive applause and celebration when she announced the seventh site in that order, Table Mountain.

The New7Wonders of Nature, in alphabetical order, are:

1. Amazon

2. Halong Bay

3. Iguazu Falls

4. Jeju Island

5. Komodo

6. Puerto Princesa Underground River

7. Table Mountain

Congratulations have been streaming in via social media from around the world. Several thousand Facebook fans shared their appreciation for the announcement on the I ♥ Cape Town page. Riefqah Davis wrote, "We know we live at the foot of an awesome natural wonder. It's just been confirmed! Love it!" Lynette Lambert Sasman wrote, "What a privilege, to be a witness to this absolute wonder. To see it everyday , when driving to work, never get tired of it. It's everchanging, breathtaking."

Mariëtte du Toit-Helmbold, CEO of Cape Town Tourism, said: “We are very, very excited about this win! From being awarded the World Design Capital 2014 designation just a few weeks ago to Table Mountain being named one of the New7Wonders of Nature today, Cape Town and South Africa are standing proud! There are many benefits, but our biggest opportunity is job creation potential.”
