Table Mountain hike – Flickr pic of the day

This lovely image of a rock formation on Table Mountain was taken by our Cape Town. Live it. Love it. group member Alex Bond-Smith.

Alex says, “I like to keep fit so I try to hike up Table Mountain at least once or twice a week, often on a Thursday with friends from the Mountain Club.

“A few weeks ago we went up a route known as Three Firs, a short but steep climb to the top, on the right-hand side of Spring Buttress, one of the Twelve Apostles.

“At the top of the route there is a wonderful rock formation known as The Saucy Dog. I think that this is beacause of its resemblance to the dog doing a dance in the Snoopy cartoons.

“Someone in our group thought it would be a good idea to climb onto the rock and take photographs of each other. When it was my turn, I handed my camera to Rob Bearyman to take a shot of me and this is the result,” he continues.

The Hoerikwaggo Trails (+27 21 465 8515/9; www.hoerikwaggotrails.co.za) are hiking routes within Table Mountain National Park which take in the Table Mountain chain from the city centre to Cape Point.
