Table Mountain Cableway – Flickr pic of the day

This beautifully composed picture of the Table Mountain Cableway was taken by our Cape Town. Live it. Love it. group member Hendrik Groenewald.

Hendrik says, “I took this picture on February 3, 2009. My girlfriend and I were celebrating our six-year dating anniversary and as she’s never been up in the cable car – and the last time I had gone up was in the previous version of it, way back in 1990 – I decided to treat her to the trip.

“We both love photography and Cape Town has always been a place of great beauty – something you appreciate a lot when you return from the UK after two years of living in London,” he continues.

The Table Mountain Aerial Cableway takes visitors to the summit of Table Mountain in under 10 minutes. The cable car’s rotating floor and huge windows ensure that all passengers get a 360-degree aerial view as they head up the mountain.

The cableway was first launched in 1929. Since then, many upgrades have taken place, and today it has state-of-the-art facilities and a well-established safety record.
