Summer in Cape Town… and the livin’ is easy
If you live in the northern hemisphere, you’re probably preparing to hibernate for the winter, your thick coats at the ready for when you absolutely have to leave home.
Wouldn’t you rather be in Cape Town?
As we enter summer at the southern tip of Africa, visitors from around the world start streaming into Cape Town to soak up the city’s long, sunny days and vibrant, colourful nightlife.
We posted a question on the I ♥ Cape Town Facebook page this morning, asking fans to share what they like most about Cape Town in summer. Here’s what they had to say:
Minoru Koodera of Konosu-shi, Saitama, Japan says he likes surfing at Camps Bay, while Harry J White of Twillingate, Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada, says the beautiful V&A Waterfront does it for him.
Suzanne Bayon de Noyer of Marseilles, France, says Cape Town has “a coastline that beats the Côte d'Azur in beautiful beaches, great seafood, cosmopolitan vibe, cool people, jazz and urban creativity”.
Carol Jones Delcie of Florida, USA, loves “just everything! From beaches ... flea markets ... entertainment at the Waterfront ... just absolute freedom to do whatever u want. Awesome.”
“The food, the fabulous wine and beautiful beaches ... what’s not to love?” asks Nazlie Otto Ward of New Jersey, USA.
But it’s not just sun-seekers from the northern hemisphere who love Cape Town in the summer. Our Facebook page drew comment from several fans in South America, and from quite a few South Africans as well.
“Everything!” says Johnny Heredia of Buenos Aires, Argentina when asked what he loves about Cape Town in summer. “Friends, sea, Table Mountain, sun... I love CT!”
Jayesh Mehta of São Paulo, Brazil is another fan. His says his favourite summer pastime in the Mother City is enjoying sundowners at Clifton.
And here’s our favourite local comment, from Suzette Ellis Dittrich: “I have been all over the world, and Cape Town has it all and more! Plus obviously our ever-relaxing ‘Cape Coma’, whether on the beach, on Robben Island, on Table Mountain or Cape Point ... plus, friendly Capetonians ...”
Clearly, Cape Town has it all in summer!
