Strand beach walk – Flickr pic of the day
Lee says, “I’m an amateur photographer and I’ve had my Canon Xti for about a year and a half now. Learning how to use the digital SLR has been incredibly rewarding and fun. I live near the Strand and many of my best photography moments have been capturing the many colourful people who spend time on the beach. From the retired couples sitting on benches to the fishermen and kite-surfers – there’s an endless supply of interesting characters.
“The people of Cape Town are always generous, ready with a wave and a smile (although I’m sure that half the time they think I’m from the press) – they are our true treasures, I think.
“The photograph was taken while I was on duty at my school’s annual fundraiser beach walk. The mist had started to roll in and the light was just perfect, so I grabbed my camera and quickly snapped the two girls walking away from me. Everything came together so perfectly for that shot – the light, the girls’ jaunty stride and the tip of the hotel above the clouds in the distance.
“Very soon after that the mist enveloped us completely and I could put my camera away without too many pangs of regret,” she continues.
With its beautiful white 5km-long beach, Strand is an ideal family venue for swimming, sunbathing and a variety of watersports.
