A ship carrying 25 Turkish crew members became stranded on the Table View coastline this week. According to an article published on News24 the 77-metre Panamanian-registered coal bulk carrier was driven ashore while anchored. The National Sea Rescue Institute suspects the ship’s hull had a hole, causing the engine room to flood. The crew sent out a mayday signal before abandoning the ship.
More than 2000 ships have been wrecked off the South African coast.
