The 2009 J&B Met – South Africa’s most prestigious horse racing event – is set to take place at Kenilworth Racecourse, Cape Town, on 31 January.
The annual horse racing tradition began about 200 years ago when, in a bid to impress, British soldiers invited their lady friends to watch them race their horses at Kenilworth. Two centuries later, the underlying purpose hasn’t changed as the J&B Met is less about the horse racing and more about the fashionistas strutting their stuff.
With a “glitz and glam” theme this year, at least 50 000 visitors are expected at Cape Town’s premier outdoor social event. Whether you go to place a bet or two, to see and be seen, or to party with your friends at the 5FM J&B Met Afterparty, this day at the races will not disappoint.
General entrance tickets cost R150 and will give you access to Kenilworth Racecourse – but not to any of the reserved areas or the marquee village.
