Saving power and the earth – Flickr pic of the day
With a passion for travel, tourism and social media, Cape Town is the quintessential backdrop for Media Developer Leon Jamarie and his cape adventures.
With the City as his canvass Leon paints the town red covering a range of events and activities in the peninsular while staying true to the traditional culture the mother city offers it’s children,
Originally from Durban, Leon is still an accidental tourist in the city he now calls home and as such is on the line between resident and local tourist able to provide inside knowledge and flavour to the average mundane travel blog.
He is always on the look out for that hidden gem or typical CT party. If it’s fun, relevant, he will cover it.
Says Miriam, "Cape Town, South Africa's mother city, was one of the participants during earth hour. For the occasion, hundreds of people gathered on Table Mountain road - which leads to the foot of the famous, flat topped mountain. For the occasion, Cape Town's (then mayor) Helen Zille switched off the spotlights that usually light up the landmark. The result - a star kissed mountain!"
This year the Table Mountain Aerial Cableway will be switching off all the lights around Table Mountain, except for emergency lights, and the City of Cape Town will also be switching off the spot lights on Table Mountain and in its own buildings for one hour in support of Earth Hour 2012.
