Cape Town isn’t just about interesting things to do and see, but also about community. This Saturday, March 5, sandcastle masters and beginners are invited to head down to Hout Bay Beach to show off their skills, soak up some sun and make a difference in the lives of others.
The 15th annual Hout Bay Sandcastle Competition, organised by Valley Pre-Primary School, is set to take place, and funds raised will go towards sponsoring underprivileged children and improving the facilities at the Valley Pre-Primary School and Hout Bay Educare Centre in Hangberg.
Registration begins at 08h30 and the competition officially opens at 09h30. Entry fees are R30 per adult and R15 per child participating, and there are prizes up for grabs should you manage to impress the panel of celebrity judges! If you’re up to the challenge, you can enter into the professional category for R100 per adult or R300 for a team of up to 4 people. School teams of up to six people are invited to participate for R150, and companies can enter corporate teams and have their sandcastle sites branded for R700. Companies can also sponsor teams of children from local development projects for R700.
While works of art are being created on the beach, there will be a variety of other fun activities and offerings for onlookers, including face painting, pony rides, jumping castles, magic shows, balloon artists and food stalls. Saturday in Hout Bay looks set to be a happy one, spent with fingers and toes in the sand – all for a good cause.
