Ruud Gullit soccer clinic a hit with Cape Town kids

Blog Featured Image

Some lucky Capetonian youngsters recently had the opportunity to play soccer against legendary Dutch mid-fielder Ruud Gullit and other European stars.

Gullit – who was in Cape Town to support the Holland-Belgium bid for the 2018 FIFA World Cup™ – hosted a soccer clinic in Hout Bay on December 3, before attending the December 4 Final Draw for the 2010 FIFA World Cup™.

Two local township teams – Gugulethu’s Laeden FC and Philippi’s Roman All Stars – were selected to participate in the soccer clinic at Kronendal Primary School, where they had the chance to play soccer with Gullit and other football greats, including former “Oranje” internationals Ronald de Boer (Ajax, Barcelona, Rangers), Aron Winter (Ajax, Lazio, Inter Milan) and Pierre van Hooijdonk (Feyenoord, Nottingham Forest, Celtic).

Laeden FC and the Roman All Stars are sponsored by YellowTail and Abang Africa through www.bafanakids.org, which allows corporate sponsors to “adopt” a township and school football team.

I was honoured to represent Cape Town Tourism at the soccer clinic to capture some very fun, active and memorable moments.
