Road Closures for Cape Town Carnival 2012
Fazielah Williams
Fazielah Williams has lived in and loved her Mother City since birth. Having lived all over the Peninsula during her childhood, she now calls the picturesque City Bowl home and likes nothing more than watching the sun set over Table Bay from the window of her apartment.
A lover of the arts and proud Cape Town fanatic, Fazielah began her writing career by spending many hours as a child conjuring fantastical stories that featured independent heroines from faraway lands who saved the Prince instead. This Capetonian princess has enjoyed stints as a magical arts PRO and TV publicist before finding her calling as a travel writer.
When not waxing lyrical about the Fairest Cape’s most loved attractions and activities and embarking on unexpected adventures, Fazielah can usually be found taking in a show at one of the City’s fabulous theatres.

Can you hear the rhythm of Afro-centric music playing through the streets of the Cape Town? Can you feel the pulsating beats of the drums through the city? Are you ready to be dazzled by the costumes and floats on display in the most urban of settings?
If you've answered yes to any of these questions, you know it is time for the Cape Town Carnival 2012 on Saturday, March 24, 2012. The theme is Cape to Cairo: An African Odyssey, and it is set to attract thousands of spectators to the city’s Fan Walk on Somerset Road, in Green Point.
This year’s parade features a smorgasbord of performances by both local and international carnival acts. In addition to belly dancers, rope skippers and hip hop dance crews, Brazilian dancers Marcella Alves and Raphael Rodrigues, and winners of the 2011 Flag Bearing Couple Competition, will bring a touch of the famous Rio Carnival to the Capetonian proceedings.
Jay Dowes, the Carnival CEO is ready to welcome this year’s festivities to the Fan Walk and chatted to us about what it takes to host a great Capetonian Carnival.
