Rajasthan Royals win their first match of the 2009 IPL season
The Rajasthan Royals were propelled to victory over the Kolkata Knight Riders by Yusuf Pathan’s brilliant batting power at Newlands, Cape Town last night.
Having braved a rainy start, the crowd was rewarded with a nail-biting match. It came down to a bowl-off in a “super over”.
Both sides had ended tied on 150 runs in their DLF IPL match. First to bat in the bowl-off were the Kolkata Knight Riders, who scored 15-1 in the extra over, thanks to three boundaries from Chris Gayle.
Undaunted by the challenge of chasing such a score, Pathan finished off the match in just four balls for a total of 18-0.
Thrilled with his team’s victory, Royals captain Shane Warne said, “Close games are won by teams with very good team spirit and belief. We were itching to get out there today to show we were better than the 58 all out of our first game.”
