Parliament – Flickr pic of the day
Daniel says: “This photo was taken on a beautiful spring day last September. As this was my first visit to Cape Town, I wasn’t too sure what to find in the city centre. I was amazed when I turned a corner and found this beautifully preserved old building, set in a public park which provides relative tranquillity compared to the bustle of the surrounding city.
“The sheer size of the building, combined with the surrounding trees, made it difficult to photograph, but I found a great spot which, combined with a wide angle lens on my camera, got the desired result.”
If you would like to view the interior behind this impressive facade, tours of Parliament can be arranged on weekdays. You can even buy a ticket to sit in the public gallery when Parliament is in session.
Government Avenue, a pedestrian walkway, runs through the Company Gardens and provides easy access to Parliament and other nearby attractions, such as Greenmarket Square, the Castle of Good Hope and the Victoria & Alfred Waterfront.
