Old Mutual Kirstenbosch Summer Sunset Concerts
Nothing announces summer and the “silly season” in Cape Town quite like the Old Mutual Kirstenbosch Summer Sunset Concerts. This season’s line-up brings together some of South Africa’s best musical talents to perform between the idyllic surrounds of the mother city’s grandest botanical gardens.
From Sunday 24 November, 2013 to Sunday 6 April, 2014, Kirstenbosch, nestled on the eastern slopes of Table Mountain, will come alive with the sounds of SAMA Award-winning Prime Circle, Jack Parow, Mango Groove, Goldfish, Oliver Mtukudzi and The Parlotones.
As the days get hotter, so does the line-up. Ard Matthews, Johnny Clegg, Fokofpolisiekar, Freshlyground, and The Cape Philharmonic Orchestra lend their musical talents for your entertainment.
Mi Casa is joined by veteran performer Hugh Masekela, Desmond and the Tutus with Shortstraw, Lira and many more on an entertainment roster that promises to keep you jiving late into the first months of the new year!
The series of concerts close off with Jeremy Loops, modern folk artist ,with a musical mash-up offering a number of genres like folk, reggae, hip-hop, gypsy-jazz … the list goes on. He makes music that inspires and motivates him and believes “music, like all art, is a visual/audible representation of humanity. And humanity is community. In Africa, we call this concept Ubuntu.”
Now that you know what’s in store, don’t forget to book your tickets, which go on sale every Tuesday before each concert from the Visitors’ Centre Ticket Office. If you miss this purchase period, tickets are available on the Sunday of each event from all entrances. You can also book by telephone on 021 761 2866 / 799 8782 or online through Webtickets.
