Ocean View House Celebrates Responsible Tourism in #LoveCapeTown
One of our stellar accommodation spots which is as big on giving back to their community as they are on giving visitors a phenomenal stay is Ocean View House in gorgeous Bakoven, along the edge of the Atlantic Ocean. Ocean View House is one of the City of Cape Town's endorsed responsible tourism projects.
In honour of World Tourism Day and its Tourism and Water theme on Friday 27 September, 2013, we chatted to Ocean View House’s General Manager Katrin Ludik to find out what they’re doing to be responsible and why they #LoveCapeTown.
What is Ocean View House doing to celebrate World Tourism Day and its theme Tourism and Water?
We have been very active on the conservation side of water, waste and energy. One of our highlights was that when we started to monitor our water consumption we found a big water leak which was running for at least two years already. Since this has been fixed our water consumption has significantly reduced.
Practising responsible tourism is important to Ocean View House because…
We are passionate about our planet and we strongly believe every single one of us CAN make a difference.
Please tell us about any exciting Responsible Tourism developments/projects you have planned for 2014?
In 2014, Ocean View House will focus on our social responsibility programme, as we have now fine-tuned the environmental programme.
What are your top 5 water spots in #LoveCapeTown and why?
- The mountain stream running through our property, little and tranquil in summer wild and roaring in winter.
- Noordhoek beach for its long beautiful beach rides and walks
- Table View Beach for its amazing views of Table Mountain
- The nearby dams for amazing water-skiing (Quaggas Kloof and The Waterkloof)
- Table Bay Harbour for great sunset sailing cruises
Why do you #LoveCapeTown?
I love Cape Town because where ever you are you have an amazing view of Ocean , Mountain or City and for its lovely people!
