New guide to getting around Cape Town

Local publishing company Media Nova, in partnership with Cape Town Tourism, is set to produce the 2009/10 Cape Town Official Visitors’ Guide, with the first edition to be distributed in November 2009.

Cape Town Tourism CEO Mariëtte du Toit-Helmbold has expressed enthusiasm about the partnership. “We want to create more than an authoritative guide to the city; we want visitors to consider this a souvenir,” Du Toit-Helmbold says in an article on Media Nova’s website. “We believe that Media Nova will help us produce something that is interesting, informative, creative and attractive.”

Media Nova’s innovative approach will see it increasing the dimensions of the guide, giving visitors and advertisers a larger canvas to work with. It also plans to split the guide into two editions. The first, to be published in November, will coincide with high season. The second, set to hit the streets along with soccer fever in June 2010, will have editorial content focused on the 2010 FIFA World Cup. Each edition will have a print run of 200 000 copies and be distributed at key points throughout the city.

With the help of Cape Town Tourism, Media Nova plans to market the publication as the guidebook of choice at international trade shows and events.

Media Nova Managing Director Tony Vaughan says he is confident about the new partnership. “Through The Property Magazine we have been celebrating Cape Town editorially and visually for over five years,” he says on the company’s website. “To partner with Cape Town Tourism to bring our combined experience to bear promises the visitor to Cape Town a truly memorable guide of this amazingly beautiful city.”
